What Is Claude Docs?
Claude Docs lets you write living documents with Claude and the people you work with.
Documents are saved to your Claude account and can include formatting such as headings and tables, as well as multiple tabs.
Overview
Ask Claude for a doc in any conversation; it drafts the doc, asks clarifying questions and leaves comments explaining its choices.
You can edit the doc yourself or ask Claude for the next pass.
Claude Docs is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.
Anthropic is turning Claude into a workspace for producing and revising files that businesses run on.
How Claude Docs Works
Claude can use context it already has, including your files, projects, memory, skills and connected apps.
You can request changes in the conversation, and Claude edits the doc and tells you what changed.
The document owner can share it with others, who receive view or edit access.
Claude only works on a document when a signed-in person asks it to, and its actions follow that person’s permissions.
Practical Workflow Integration
You can start a document in a conversation, from the Artifacts tab, in Claude Code or in the Claude mobile app.
Editors can work on the same document at the same time, with edits appearing in real time.
You can export documents as Word, PDF, Markdown or Google Docs.
Key Features
- Drafting from context: Claude can draw on connected material and information already available to it when drafting a document.
- Direct editing: You can make changes in the document itself, and they save automatically.
- Claude revisions: Ask Claude for a revision in the conversation and it will describe what it changed.
- Comments: Collaborators can comment on selected text, and mentioning Claude in a comment can request an edit.
- Charts and visuals: You can ask Claude to add charts, diagrams, graphs or timelines to a document.
- Team editing: People with edit access can work together on the document in real time.
- Export options: The available export formats include Word, PDF, Markdown and Google Docs.
